I rather like the point of view expressed by Bill Whittle, a commentator on PJTV (you can also find his Firewall commentaries on YouTube). He remarks that "the grass has to be mowed periodically" as a metaphor for dealing with evil. It has never been totally eliminated, nor will it ever be totally eliminated. It simply grows back every time you cut it down. That's why we call mowing the lawn a "chore". It's a chore handed down to us by our forefathers and one that we'll hand off to our progeny.

SGT (Join to see) If we go back to the 2012 Presidential election, Mitt Romney tried to tell POTUS that Al Qaeda is not on the run and not in hiding. “It’s really not on the run. It’s certainly not hiding. This is a group that is now involved in 10 or 20 countries, and it presents an enormous threat to our friends, to the world, to America long term, and we must have a comprehensive strategy to help reject this kind of extremism.” Since this time other warnings have been consistently given. There were a number of warnings issued last summer as well. Given the continued assessments that we were not putting enough emphasis on continuing operations against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and predictions about what troop withdrawal would result in that were ignored, it is not surprising to see this article you posted here.

That's because our POTUS has selective hearing and tunnel vision. He hears what he wants to hear, and he sees what he wants to see. Our opinions are not important to him. He doesn't listen to his staff. Why would he listen to someone like Romney, who has vision and listens. If he had listened and acted on advice, would we be in better shape? We'll never know. Besides his own ego getting in the way, his faith has also prevailed.
