The little background I know is that, apparently, Phil Collins (songwriter) has the largest collection of Alamo artifacts and offered them for display with the stipulation that all would be on display, not just a few somewhere. That lead to the purchase of the federal building to house the collection, and the state to purchase the buildings in front of the Alamo, and once the leases are up, tenets are out. I'm sure some of the controversy was around how the building were purchased - I'm guessing the owners didn't get much of a choice. I'm just glad they are not tearing down the Bier Garten!
