This Marine must be the Amy Winehouse of Okinawa. It's too bad people died because of his stupidity.

The legal limit there is .03 so three times that would put him at .09 barely above the limit in the US (.08 stateside), not exactly Amy Winehouse level of intoxication. That is not to say that it isn't a tragedy just that statistics can be manipulated to make things sound more extreme than they are.

I witnessed an NJP of a Marine who drank while under-aged with a BAL of .846. It nearly killed him. And this was before his 20th birthday. (Back when the drinking age was 20 in Okinawa). With the exception of the few idiots, we were a little more responsible when drinking. I know that the majority of my company would either drink in the barracks and not go anywhere. Or take a cab/walk to the bar and back.
