What I got from this article:
AMD will make something cooler and better.
What I didn't understand:
Everything else
Can you make this stupid-proof ?

SGT (Join to see) In a nutshell, it is all related to how fast, meaning efficiently, the CPU can handle the data compared to its clock (2.0ghz, 3.0ghz) speed. The more efficient the architecture, or how data is routed through the chip, the more data a CPU can process for the same clock speed. With greater efficiency, the CPU will also use less power, generate less heat, and will have faster perceived speed even though it may run at a lower clock speed. The current generation of AMD CPU's/ APU's tend to be less efficient than their Intel counterparts at the same clock speeds. Sometimes by quite a margin. In the past, AMD had the lock on faster and more efficient CPU's. They also offered them at a lower price than Intel did. This pushed Intel to develop the i-series of processors, i7; i5; i3, which allowed them to take back the lead in the "efficiency wars". AMD has not been able to compete since. What is exciting about this announcement, is that AMD may have a chance to finally catch up and surpass Intel in this. Leading to another wave of competition, innovation, and lower prices for the consumer.

SSgt Mark Lines - Much sense, you've made. I hope this happens before I buy a new computer so I know whether an i7 is a good choice or not. Thanks for the recap.

SGT (Join to see) - No problem. I am also looking at this myself. I am looking to upgrade my computer next year.
