The P-47 Thunderbolt was a very heavy fighter with an enormously powerful engine. Nicknamed "The Jug", the P-47 was a versatile fighter that was adept at air to ground missions shooting up German armor and air to air combat shooting down German fighters. Capt Johnson and Capt Gabby Gabreski, both multi-ace fighter pilots, flew the P-47 with great success.
