"But his claim is both an exaggeration and an oversimplification. According to an analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the Department of Defense’s base budget grew by 31 percent between fiscal 2000 and 2014, with an annual average growth rate of 1.9 percent."
So, the Defense budget grew 31% between 2000 and 2014, huh? With an average annual growth rate of 1.9%, huh?
Funny...I just typed in some numbers for the same span of years with an online inflation calculator and you know what I found out? Prices in 2014 are 37.4% higher than they were in 2000. Which means the Defense budget didn't even keep pace with annual inflation. Which, for the same period, averaged 2.3% per year, even though it was 1.4% in 2014 itself.
So the Defense budget WAS cut to the point of depletion.
