1986-1987 Winter Over, I hate cold weather, but figured if I could make it in Antarctica I could make it anywhere. Member 200 degree club, learned to skydive in New Zealand, survived Snow Craft Survival School, met the SECNAV John Lehman, tended bar, DJ at the radio station, visited the Ice Caves, and Scotts Hut, saw the last sled dogs in Antarctica, climbed Observation Hill, spent a month at Williams Field, filmed a 'Herbie' in action, had a Skua Gull crap on my ball cap (Good Luck), got lost in the middle of town during a whiteout, and was the male half of the first military couple to winter over, my wife Kathy was an RM. Would I go back? Absolutely! Unfortunately we lost two NZ members that winter, they got lost and fell in a crevasse, RIP fellow OAE's (Old Antarctic Explorers).
