Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "A Falcon 9 Moon." SAOCOM 1B is the second of two SAOCOM 1-series Earth observation satellites designed to provide radar imagery to help emergency responders and monitor the environment, including the collection of soil moisture measurements. Launched August 30th from Cape Canaveral, Florida into a Sun-synchronous polar orbit, this mission was the first use of the southern polar corridor to reach orbit from the Cape Canaveral since 1969.
And today's APOD is the first (that I've seen, anyway) capturing a returning Falcon 9 booster with a portrait of the Moon in the background. Nifty piece of work in my opinion.

Explanation: Illuminating planet Earth's night, full moons can have many names. This year the last full moon of northern hemisphere summer was on September 2, known to some as the Full Corn Moon. A few days earlier on August 30 this almost full moon rose just before sunset though, shining through cloudy skies over Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Florida's Space Coast. A well-timed snapshot caught the glare of rocket engines firing below the lunar disk, a Falcon 9 rocket's first stage successfully returning to Cape Canaveral's landing zone 1. About 9 minutes earlier, the same SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket had launched the SAOCOM 1B satellite toward polar orbit. The fourth launch for this reusable Falcon 9 first stage, it was the first launch to a polar orbit from Cape Canaveral since 1969."

Thanks, Stephen, for brightening up my day. I have continued to love falcons since my childhood. They seem to know (sense?) when a human being neither wants to harm nor has any fear of them. The falcon is one beautiful creature to immortalize in a work of art.
