NEW YORK — An explosion in a crowded Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan on Saturday night left more than 25 people injured, and authorities called the blast an "intentional act," but said there was no terrorist connection.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio also said a second site was being investigated.
Tonight, New York City experienced a very bad incident," de Blasio said at a news conference near the scene. "We have no credible and specific threat at this moment. "
De Blasio said the blast was "an intentional act" and tried to calm any fears among nervous New Yorkers, saying the explosion had no terrorist connection and wasn't related to a pipe bomb explosion earlier Saturday in New Jersey at a charity run.
A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the explosion appears to have come from a construction toolbox in front of a building. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person wasn't authorized to speak about an ongoing investigation.
The blast happened on West 23rd street, front of a residence for the blind, near a major thoroughfare with many restaurants.

Police spokesman J. Peter Donald said He says several people were taken to hospitals with injuries.

Intentional explosions in New York City in September should give authorities pause SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. Fortunately this was a single explosion without a follow-on more deadly explosion which targets emergency response organizations.
I would't be surprised to learn that this was a test of NY City's responses. If more significant follow-on incidents happen by New Years day within the city then my assumption could be correct.

LTC Stephen F., SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL, there was a second pressure cooker bomb with timer founder nearby, and taken away and detonated by the bomb squad. There was a third bomb that went off in New Jersey that police say was made by the same person as the other two.

The by-line is "Apparent". Ummm... there was an explosion. They must have been trying to fill white space. When will we have enough of this and how will this change the way we interact within our cities?
