Has our celebrity worshipping culture become so ridiculous that our own lives are considered secondary compared to them? I read this story and I felt incredibly sad for this woman. This woman had killed herself, and even in death, all the focus is on her ex-wife because she's a celebrity. Every media outlet is posting pictures of the two of them as if they were a happy couple right up until she took her life. Then at the very bottom you get a footnote that reveals she got remarried. So are we really so shallow that we couldn't find a picture of her and her current wife together or her with her kids together. How sad is it when someone is forced to take a backseat in their own life story.
Even more sad is I feel bad for her current wife. Imagine having your spouse commit suicide and every media outlet was circulating pictures of your spouse and their exes as if you didn't exist.
What are your thoughts and feelings on this? Do you find it disrespectful to both the dead and the current spouse? Are you indifferent? Do you think I'm overreacting?

Once upon a time great athletes and actors as well as other notables were known as stars. They stood out in their respective fields because of their accomplishments. Celebrities these days are notable only beause they are known and a media industry thrives on celebrating their every utterance and act. Their comings and goings are treated with greater attention than the kinds of accomplishments that we once celebrated. Sad. I prefer the older system

It is a sad state of affairs. You said it most profoundly. Way too many idolize celebrity, superficiality, and wealth. The real people we know and respect daily in our personally lives have much more character and value than those who have a fleeting fame and a superficial wealth.

Thank you. It's just something that struck me as sad. Imagine turning on your tv and seeing your spouse all over the news being shown in the arms of another person. That could only turn an already painful moment in your life even more painful by the sheer lack of sensitivity.
