Thanks for sharing the tips Kim Bolen RN CCM ACM My wife has some unpaid medical debt which we are gradually paying down.
I just got back from an echocardiogram preformed for the VBA. It happens to be in the same building where I went for over 10 years to the cardiology group in the same building. I walked out with a gentlemen who mentioned he had been to see a cardiologist. I recognized the name because he had been my cardiologist in the late 1990s before I was mobilized back to active duty in 2001. The VA covers all f my health care needs. I am getting ready to submit my packet for active duty retirement which will be effective in October this year. At that point I plan on taking TRICARE and using VA for some of my care as well as my wife's but I plan on using TRICARE for cardiology, gastroenterology, and dermatology.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - If the VA rates you at 100% disabled your spouse is authorized to be treated in many cases. I had a VBA echocardiogram today to look into my diastolic dysfunction which was rated at moderate last fall by the treatment side of the VA. Since the I have developed edema in both legs. I was rated at 60% service-connected heart problems before the diastolic dysfunction. I wouldn't be surprised if my heart rating is increased which brings up the rest of my disabilities which are no higher than 20%. I expect that I will be rated at 100% disabled this summer. Then my wife who has been uninsured for a few years will be able to be seen. My wife likes my VA primary care doctor who likes us both.
This October I turn 60 and will be able to fully retire and draw my retirement salary and then I think I will elect TRICARE fro my wife and I. I plan on using TRICARE for cardiology, dermatology, and gastroenterology and using VA for primary care, orthopedics, neurology, ophthalmology, etc.

Thanks for the info. I am 80% VA. I did not know about the wife, but I am not up to 100% yet... I did the paperwork on 2 hip replacements last year, and the Dr only wanted to talk about train travel in the US....for 2 hours. About 2 minutes on my hips and then ended meeting. VA declined it, even though a GS-15 Army Doc and Chief of an Army Clinic in MD had a letter of linking it to my military and INF trime. He had been my doc for 5 years. I guess the VA doc who saw me for 2 hours was better than him. But it is all survivable.
