It’s all situational but the majority of grandparents who help raise/care for their grandchildren is beneficial to their well-being (more positive than negative).

My parents helped care for my daughter as I attended training and college. If I wasn’t doing anything to better myself, they wouldn’t have helped me. I’ll do the same for my children and help with my grandchildren. It takes a village to raise/care for children, who better than relatives?

I also won’t allow my parents to be put in a home. They didn’t give up caring for me in my hardest times, I won’t give up on them during their last days. I’ll hire a nurse or someone to attend to them in my home if they require special medical attention. I do it for my grandparents now!

It’s the circle of life in my Mexican/ Hispanic culture.

Thanks for all the comments. It's interesting to see the varying opinions based on family experiences. As someone without family nearby, I wish grandparents could be more involved with my kids, not as a cheap solution for childcare but as a positive influence. Great discussion!!

I grew up in a big family of Italian/ Welsh/ Irish/ German heritage and in a neighborhood six to eight blocks long, there was approx. 230 of us in that area, so we were all about family and community. I realize some of you were not. But for love of others and of family, it is an aspect that is understood by even two people. Everyone should have the love of family and the chance to grow in it, and all families have grandma to thank for that which you are. They are the backbone of America. Let your grandmas be a bigger part of raising your children and they will thank you for it.
