The Staples Center in Los Angeles does this for the Lakers, Clippers, and Kings as well as for concerts and other large events. What I find interesting is not only are you laying or removing flooring but you have to clean the entire place, change ads, and the team stores have to change stock to support which team is playing. There is also about a ten degree temperature difference between basketball and hockey games.

10 degrees? That's it? Interesting. I agree with all your points.

A lot of the major arenas that have both basketball and hockey teams do this. It is too expensive and time consuming to melt the ice every time. They also do this for concerts and other things held at the arena during hockey season.

Our local facility doesn't remove the ice. It covers it with insulation and then puts the floor down. A good crew can do the conversion in about 3 hours.

However, when hockey season ends, they do remove the ice.

This is an example of that.
