Spent about 1/2 of my career in Scout/LRS units, it pains me to see all of that work fade into the other units. It'll take another decade to assemble, Train, and field an effective LRS unit. I honestly don't think they understand the major differences between LRS and INF, in their eyes they can just send a unit out and call them LRS. :( Truly a sad day

I agree with you. They'll want them back sometime, and have to start from scratch.
Here's a link to another thread on this on RP, to see some of the feedback other RP members have had on the subject.

Do RP members think that the Army is making a mistake by deactivating it's long term recon units in favor of high tech alternatives? I, for one, am in favor of eyes-on-target. Tech can only provide you with a flat perspective where actual troops can detail a richer AO environment.

This happened with snipers as well. After Vietnam the army didn't emphasize the need for them.
