I was there 07-09 and it was pretty bad then... I can remember a long stretch when that traffic light with the fatality clock didn't get past 10 for like 6-8 months. 4ID, 3ACR, and 1CAV were all there, someone was always leaving or coming back. It got above 30 one time and we got a 4-day, and sure enough, it was back to zero. My uncle was there in the 70's too. Lots of drugs and violence on post and in Killeen from how he described it. He even mentioned a drive through drug dealer in Harker Heights. I enjoyed my time at Hood, but there is something crazy about that place.

This doesn't even include the person we had been searching for after the floods, or the diver that died in that search and rescue mission. I can't help but scoff every day that I drive through that gate and am welcomed to "The Great Place". But perhaps it is tradition to not like your first duty station...
