Now how much will it cost the soldier to replace after they get scratched to hell and back?

They were an approved GPC purchase through the command. I wish I still worked in the same office so I could get you the details on them.

here is a link to the ones we use: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/EMDCI/Home/Products/ProductCatalog/~/3M-Smart-Lens-Protective-Eyewear-13407-00000-5-Photochromatic-Lens-Black-Frame-5-ea-case?N=5477714+ [login to see] &rt=rud
We do demolition on a regular basis and these were approved by our explosive safety officer and our overall safety officer.

SFC Anthony Shaffer, if you have the eyepro on your clothing record you can just go into CIF with a frame, a lens, and the case they come in and they will DX them for a brand new pair. I know specifically for FT Bliss because I get mine and my soldiers swapped out when needed.

Wiley X had this since 2012 but haven't sold the Army on it. But myself and a battle buddy managed to acquire some for our Afghan deployment. They were very cool.

Did they transition fast enough to be effective say going from building to building 50 meters apart? Also transitioning back to clear going inside?

MAJ James Woods - I hoped they worked tons better than eye glass transition lenses because they suck.

I had a set of the Oakley transition lenses for their M Frames during my 2011/12 AFGH deployment. Actually I still have them. In my opinion... I did not care for them much. While it was nice not having to change lenses or glasses they never seemed to get dark enough to make much of a difference in the sunlight. This was compounded while in a vehicle and looking through the windshield. The lenses tended to adjust to the shade inside as opposed to brightness outside the vehicle.
However, they were pretty quick to transition but this was probably more due to the lack of a darker shade range.
