That may be true that Asian Actors only make up 1% of Hollywood's Leading Roles SSgt (Join to see). I would be much more interested in what the statistics are for the top 10%, 25% and 50% distributions are because there are many Asian actors in film and movies.
Hollywood is not as relevant as it once was in the international and even nation film industry where New York and most other states have film production hubs.
However if you went to Bollywood or the Chinese and Japanese film industry hubs you would find a much higher percentage.

A huge reason for this is also because the Asian-American population is very small. Less than 6% of the total U.S. Population. Not a large audience base. Further, you can't lump all Asians into one group either. The cultural and historical nuances dividing countries like Japan and Korea for instance further segment "Asian-Americans" and shrink potential loyal audiences even more. This may be odd coming from a white guy, but my business partner is Korean-American and we just released our first feature film "Ktown Cowboys" (available on demand everywhere in the US) and it had an all Asian American cast (with a few exceptions)...so we are familiar with this issue.

Yeah my fiance is Thai. I make Thai TV available to her. But to make my point, I used the term, just to discuss the issue. But even Thai likes Korean, Japanese, Pinoy.
