I do not disagree with your evaluation of the cost of imprisonment in California. But, as I note above, this just means, to me anyway, that the cost of everything in California is inflated. Yes, there are lots of better ways to spend society's money than on imprisonment. But crime must be punished or we will end up in chaos. I am well qualified with firearms from my military service, but I don't want to live in an environment where I have to tote a gun to feel safe every day. Do you want your wife and family to live in that world?

Yes, and prisoners who are set to work in many such enterprises often commit identity theft and other crimes. This is one reason why I strongly oppose any use of prisoners in any profit-making enterprise by private prison industries.

Interesting points Capt Dwayne Conyers my question is what can society do to reduce the prison population? Is this a failing of parents or school or what?
