I never understood why this was an issue to begin with. You wouldn't walk around downrange without a weapon. We're facing a global threat form an enemy that has shown repeatedly the capacity to bypass security measures, infiltrate secure areas and attack with speed and surprise. The only argument I see is "well someone could have a negligent discharge" or "subordinates placed under extreme stress could shoot their leaders". look, if you can't trust someone with a weapon for whatever reason then they shouldn't be serving. This really should be common sense.

Who else beside police are as qualified to carry a weapon. But if a solider used that weapon for something else he or she should have to face criminal action from both military and civilian law.
