PO3 Bob McCord - PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Since he is a Lt Col and up to this pointif he hasn't done anything criminal, if he is close to retirment they will give him a staff job I am sure. Removal of command can be as simple as him and his commander didn't get along and thier leadership philosophies were drastically different or a climate survey stated the squadron was tanking in morale and accident were onthe rise or close calls etc and the senior leadership needed to put someone else in command. he won't make O-6 but he will probably be able to stay around and retire. From what the article state he was a pretty good combat leader but that doesn't always equate to peacetime leadership either. Probably a good man but just couldn't effectively lead. But his chances of making O-6 just got flushed down the toilet.

Thank you Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth and PO3 Bob McCord! As a newbie to this site, I appreciate how you broke this information down. I was attached to USS Ranger (CV-61) when we were forced into an accident by a Liberian flagged tanker/oiler in the Malacca Straits outside of Singapore. I had to leave the ship early, so don't know if Capt Moore was held accountable, but there were 3 or 4 other collisions involving Liberian flagged ships in ~ 2 years (1978-1979 or 1979-1980). Carriers cannot deviate from the center "trench" of the straits due to their draft (65' as I imperfectly recall). Yokosuka's shipyard gave Ranger a new bow in July/August 1979 with new sonar electronics. Are either of you aware of this incident or others occurring in this time frame and if the skippers were held accountable for the aggressive actions of other international vessels?
Thanks again for the education.

"The Air Force values and encourages a positive work atmosphere where all airmen are treated with dignity and respect, and leadership actions that do not reflect these ideals are not condoned,"
...so he hurt someone's feelings and they fired him?
