Why are we giving money to for-profit prison companies any way? They are invested in having more prisoners and detainees. Despicable.

Not the same. Regular prisons get funding as part of state budget for law enforcement. Private prisons make profit based on inmate numbers. One corrupt judge in Pennsylvania specifically sent juveniles to detention for kickbacks from a company
