Their most famous Ranger story was the rescue of POWs behind Japanese lines in the Philippines. It was immortalized in the movie "The Great Raid." Ranger ingenuity, wit, skill and freakin kick-ass-ness are shown to great effect in this true story movie.

While the Raid at Cabanatuan was the clearly the most successful mission of the Rangers in WWII, it was fairly unknown. Unless you were a WWII history buff or a military history buff, most folks were unaware of that fantastic mission. The movie "The Great Raid" made the mission famous.
