Von Paulus's sixth Army was chewed up at Stalingrad SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. They arrived in the warm weather as Army Group South was dong its best to get to the desperately needed oilfields of the Caucasus. Building by building fighting in the inner city with snipers taking their toll until the bitter winter settled in.
I have read more books on Stalingrad than I can remember. Howver the battle of Kursk was my favorite subject as far as Operation Barbarossa and the following on operations of Army Groups North, Center and South.

LTC Stephen F. roger that, what a battle of the ages, the ole saying" never under estimate the heart of a fighter". Well said and profoundly stated as I have become accustomed to the astute responses. Well received my friend.

I met one of Von Paulus's relatives who was an officer in the USMC. He was very professional, knew his shit and took care of his Marines. Unfortunately he ended up being a scapegoat for one of the POW incidents in Iraq.
