This battle I find has a close parallel to the early part of the Korean War (I refuse to call it a conflict in deference to my Brothers from that war) both American Army forces were hastily assembled and undertrained with outdated equipment and poor leadership from higher up,it took years of combat to be proficient in the art of war, there seems to be lessons to be learned here ,the question is ,will we learn?

Actually it was our first defeat against the Germans. Back in 1942 the Army were beaten by the Japanese in the Philippines and the Marines beaten by the Japanese at Wake Island.
