Nathan, I am Army so I am not sure how that works for the Air Force. I will say I don't care what service you are in if you hold a job that gets incentive/special duty pay in any other service the USAF should as well. I received jump pay and language pay most of my career, it was not unusual to receive emanate danger/hazardous duty/hostile fire/ etc so on and so forth. The pay is not to make a person rich, it is simply try and compensate the service member for the danger/environment they are working in. The other side of the coin I have seen and most likely I did as well was awarded money when in reality the situation did not warrant it. Any way I am just some semi-broken knuckle dragging barbarian so I wish you the best, and be the best you can be. Oh, thanks for your service.

SSgt (Join to see) - Nathan I think part of the issue with the CCT's and TACP's is they spend as much time as possible with the SF Groups. That is a win win.

LTC Jeff Shearer - damn right. Put your best players together & watch them dominate! I was headstrong enough when I was younger to try out for it, but I couldn't (Still can't) swim worth a crap...lol.

Thank goodness that is a smaller group in the Air Force, than it is in the Army. Can you imagine giving everyone in the Army with a Parachutist Badge, Jump pay just because they have wings? Or everyone that has Aviators wings, Aviation pay just because they have the wings?
Damn, might as well make it part of retirement pay also.

Robert, I agree with you just because you have wings or SCUBA badge does not mean you should get the pay. You must be in a slot and you must be current unless currency lapses due to AC availability or combat tours. You know what I mean.

LTC Jeff Shearer - I know exactly what you mean. Though it would have been nice to have that extra money while I was teaching JROTC or when I was in Korea.
It is kind of interesting that they stuck medical profile situations into the mix, because in accordance with the pay manuals there are already provisions for those situations, though it is not always to the benefit of the service member. On the surface the reasoning seems sounds, but when you get down to the nitty gritty part of it, it is all about the money and not what it is supposed to compensate for. But retention in a field or specialty, I thought was taken care of by bonus' whether it was AF or any other branch. I think it is just a way for desk bound folks to rake in more money for a qualification as opposed to duty. Interesting that in the civilian world it usually works the same way - incentives while doing a particular job, and no incentives when the job does not require it. It is like comparing a commander and staff member of the same rank - one gets a driver and vehicle and the other one does not.
