Thank you, my friend SGT (Join to see) for reminding those of us familiar with The Great War and the bombing raids of Zeppelins on France and southern England that on May 10, 1915, a Zeppelin dropped a hundred bombs on Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England.
At that time my paternal grandfather William John Field was deployed to Gallipoli, Turkey with the British Army expeditionary forces as a Lance Corporal

1. The only one killed was Mrs Whitwell of North Road, Prittlewell.
2. However since the "air raid coincided with the sinking of the Lusitania and the publication of the Bryce Report into German atrocities in Belgium, leading to an outpouring of anti-German sentiment in Southend and elsewhere in the country."
