Well, that's not true, is it? You'll have to forgive Bernie. He's been asked a few times to define socialism and has failed miserably. Yes, there are some who would like to replace free market capitalism with socialism, but God knows why. Every experiment at socialism, including the half-assed version practiced by the Pilgrims when they first arrived, failed. It almost wiped them out and America might never have evolved.
Attempts by the government to "socialize" selected industries have likewise failed. Every time the government attempts to go beyond their limited mandate to police commerce, they fail miserably. Look at their investments. From Washington's fur trading companies to Lincoln's transcontinental railroad to Obama's "shovel ready" green industry "investments", failures all. Obamacare will soon fail and the government will use that failure as an excuse to replace whatever remains of the private health insurance industry with a single payer system. Like England, Canada, and other nations that have gone down that road, Americans will "enjoy" reduced access to health care, longer waiting time for health care, and increased costs reflected in taxes to pay for government subsidies. Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe We the People will finally learn our lesson and never elect or reelect another politician who espouses socialism. Sadly, I doubt it. We have proven to have a great capacity for ignoring history and repeating mistakes, even the most egregious ones.

Jack, I consider you one of my closest contacts here on Rallypoint. Did YOU read the article? As most of the federal budget is already transfer payments, Bernie, as much as I can't stand him and I'm against socialism, is actually right on this one. The difference between him and me is that he LOVES it and I HATE it.

CDR Michael Goldschmidt - I read it. Sure Bernie is right, just as a stopped clock is right (no, make that correct) twice every day

We aren't totally a Socialist country, but we have been drawing closer and closer for a long time now.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean that he's wrong about everything. The prescription for Socialism isn't more socialism, but more freedom. Read the article. It will open your eyes...more.
