I agree CPT Jack Durish I had several soldiers that deploy with me during OIF 05-07 to Iraq and we awarded them their citizenship - I believe that should extended to all veterans who sewrved this country in war and peacetime. They raised their hand and swore an oath - to me that counts for everything!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs, CPT Jack Durish I agree with both of you. Anyone that honorably serves our country should be awarded citizenship.

"Deporting American veterans doesn't seem right to me. "

I agree, but that is not what was done, not at all.. They have deported non US citizens, NOT American veterans.

"They raised their hand and swore an oath -" that they did, and I thank them for it.

The Nation thanked them by giving them the honor and privilege of being fast tracked though the process and guaranteed citizenship unless disqualified though their own acts.
Read that again,....yes they earned the RIGHT and PRIVILEGE of guaranteed citizenship unless disqualified though their own acts.
It was theres for the taking, offered in a way other immigrants don't get, bypassing years of waiting.

All the non citizen US service member need do to take advantage of the earned privilege of being fast tracked though the process and guaranteed citizenship is ACT .. They must do the process, not sit back and want it to be handed to them. Not one, not a single one of the non citizen US service members I served with who WANTED to become a US citizen did not do so while still serving... every one of them, the ones who spoke English poorly, the ones who had family back home, they ones who could not contact family back home, the ones that were not great at administrative functions.....all of them managed to get though the guaranteed citizenship process earned by their service..

So, for those that did not in the years they served, the ones that did not in the years after they served, the ones that disqualified themselves with arrests and convections... I have ZERO issues with them being deported when finally caught... It was theres for the taking earned by their service to the nation, and they threw it away.

SGM Erik Marquez - Let me qualify that last one. "I have ZERO issues with them being deported when finally caught... It was theres for the taking earned by their service to the nation, and they threw it away."
That applies to all I know about, there could be perhaps a few cases that were due to no fault of the service member... Unable to complete the process because they were in a coma for 8 years, and the year after getting out of the hospital hardly able to remember their own name, they were targeted for deportation and were unable to assist them selfs in working a delay. Far fetched? Yup...and very unlikely for that type of situation to occur....but stranger things have happened, so its possible ...just not likely and not something I have read about.
