Looks familiar, the Berretta BM-59 Rifle in 7.62 x 51mm. Designed in half the time of the M-16 and had some improvements over the M-14. The Italian Infantry that provided security for the Missile battery I worked with carried these. Tough weapon that worked well. Early BM 59s made from USGI M1 Garand parts but chambered in 7.62 NATO. I always wanted one, just cause !

Nice looking rifle, I had a 6.5 mm Italian bolt action rifle years ago. Nice little woodchuck rifle.
