Read this quote from Booker T. Washington several days ago. It is amazing that he predicted this behavior would take place > 100 yrs ago and from other resources it seems he caught hell over this "truth". Again, it gets back to something Winston Churchill was reported to have said to a reporter when that reporter ask him a particular question. Churchill's response was reported to be - "Sir, you don't know your own bloody history!" Churchill's response, apparently shut the reporter up and sent a clear message that if you are going to ask a question, be informed 1st.
I would suggest that blacks and whites alike don't know their own intertwined "bloody" history at levels needed to have honest discussions with each other, without using emotion as the basis for whatever their respective points might be to sustain their ignorance. I wonder, would anyone today call Booker T Washington a racist, because he made this prophetic and honest observation? I think not! It is interesting when "truth" is spoken, how quick people on all sides of any given issue use this epithet or that epithet is sling around "-isms" without the regard to the safety of white or black or any other groups alike. Unfortunately, various "-isms" exist. Largely out of both "educated" and "uneducated" ignorance, and the desire for (hidden aka secretive) power vs real transparency!
Lets get real, I think MLK was a fan of BTW and realized that in speaking "truth to power" regarding the injustice of the various "-isms", especially "racism", that there would be those who would make it a "business" upon which to gain and sustain power, rather than working to actually resolve the root causes of such practices. In so doing, what such people "clearly choose" to do is create "chains" that keep all enslaved in ignorance, rather than breaking those chains to create and sustain genuine and responsible freedom for all.
In closing, President Trump like the 44 that came before him is NOT perfect! No one should believe otherwise, but if we are to live and breath the words "....to form a more perfect union..." we have to be real and check our emotions at the door, to deal with the realities that face us - ALL, especially our veterans who come from all walks of life to give their lives for our freedoms and to allow us as a diverse nation to walk the difficult path that kept our feet on the path to - forming that more perfect union in ourselves and among ourselves.

Thank you for your response. It is also well to remember that human psychological behavior plays a role as well. If a lie is repeated often enough without refute, it will be believed and touted as truth despite evidence to the contrary. It is especially important in this day and age, and wise, to do research on our own in order to determine truth versus lie. Those that choose to manipulate the public, target those that they hope will never check them and regard their statements and rhetoric as fact. We must all be diligent regardless of the voice we are hearing.
