Thanks for sharing an intriguing piece of naval history from WWII SGT John " Mac " McConnell. I am not surprised that the British navy had been tracking the prison ship. Our tradition of leave no man behind did not begin with this nation.
I am thankful that each and every one of the 299 British prisoners hidden below decks were rescued.
It is not surprising that Norway balked - the name of their leader "Quisling" became synonymous with traitor
Kudos to Winston Churchill and British Royal Navy Captain P. L. Vian and the crew of the destroyer Cossack.
