I spoke to a female Bobbie who was here in Las Vegas on vacation. She said that police there go through three tiers. First is baton/spray only. Second is taser. Third (competitive I believe) is armed. But even if you qualify as armed, your day to day may not be such... you may be assigned to a response car where the firearms have to be unlocked remotely by a superior. Most police, royal guards, are unarmed.
