Good video, LT Brad McInnis! We spent a good bit of time with this weapon during the SF weapons course. I was never really a fan of this weapon. This article suggests as much also.

MAJ Byron Oyler, are you asking if I preferred the M60 over the BAR or the M1919?

LTC Stephen C. - I did not realize there was a difference between BAR and M1919. Interested in your input on all.

MAJ Byron Oyler, the BAR was introduced at the end of WWI. It’s a magazine fed heavy automatic rifle and I never thought much of it. I would think that it would have been used by the automatic riflemen in an infantry squad (2 per squad, 1 for each fire team), but it was easily surpassed by individual weapons that were select fire (semi and auto), such as the M14 and the M16. I provided a link to an article about the BAR in my introductory comment.
The M1919 is the old .30 caliber (same round as the BAR and the M1 Garand) machine gun. It was a belt fed, crew served weapon. In terms of use, the M60 was more akin to the M1919 than the BAR. It was a belt fed, crew served machine gun also. The M60 ultimately assumed the role of the .30 cal. It was lighter and fired 7.62 NATO. I preferred the M60 to the .30 cal.
Here’s a link to an article about the M1919.
This is all simply my opinion.
