Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on January 28, 1945 the part of the 717-mile “Burma Road” from Lashio, Burma to Kunming in southwest China was reopened by the Allies, permitting supplies to flow back into China after the allies defeated the Japanese from blocking the road they had occupied since 1942.
Chindits [known officially as the Long Range Penetration Groups, were special operations units of the British and Indian armies, which saw action in 1943–1944, during the Burma Campaign of World War II.] and Merrill's Marauders played a role in this effort.
