All I can say is I wonder if landings like D day would have taken place if the planners and top military leadership had to lead the invasion.

Brigadier General Teddy Roosevelt, Jr. led from the front and was awarded the Medal of Honor. They were a different breed then.

Four very good points made. Innovation must be tested is the one I thought important. Often times in manufacturing there is too much pressure to get the product out. R and D often would do an excellent job of set up, but when the lines were run for a full shift, there were problems. Had they done three consecutive shifts of practice, problems with settings could be adjusted to minimize problems.

Civilian business could learn so much from the military, like logistics, organization, time management ... and the military could learn a lot from the civilian world, like fiscal responsibility...
