Although Khan cited the people’s right to free speech when defending the garish “Trump baby” blimp, his true intentions were exposed when Effafali’s right to criticize the London Mayor was stripped of him. According to the Daily Mail, the Camden Council, which resides in the London borough, called in contractors to remove the mural of Khan because it was too “contentious” to be allowed as freedom of expression. Unsurprisingly, Mayor Khan was completely silent, refusing to stand up for Effafali’s “right to free speech,” despite advocating for the criticism of President Trump.
Proving Khan’s hypocrisy, Effafali’s popular mural was coated with thick, black paint, leaving the entrance of his cafe as a symbol of the UK’s one-way freedoms. Effafali confirmed that the mural attracted customers to his Holborn business, an incentive that’s been taken from him, he told the Camden New Journal.
Although the portrait of Khan was deemed too “contentious” for the capital, a much larger Banksy mural of President Trump has been approved for display in the streets of London. The painting, titled “March of Progress,” derides Trump as the halfway point of the Evolution of man, conveying his supposed primitive behavior.
