I have the entire collection in hardcover. I loved Calvin and Hobbes and looked forward to reading it everyday. My favorites are the Snowman and when Calvin would pull out the Dad Poll.

SPC Robert Smart, I forgot about the Dad Poll, or how Dad would freak Calvin out and Mom wouldn't be happy about it! The serially "murdered" snowmen in his front yard was a classic, too!

I don't have the collection but am following the reprint. I've reached the age of forgetfulness and they're almost new again. (And, yes, the snowmen and the dad poll were among the best. Also, Miss Wormwood. I had a succession of Miss Wormwoods throughout every year of my schooling and passed my time imagining worlds far outside the classroom)

Yes. I read Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side every morning prior to folding, loading and delivering the papers to my customers in the neighborhood. Both comic strips helped me overcome the adversity I faced as a young person growing up and see the lighter side of life. Thanks for posting this question.

Pogo. I really miss its artist, Walt Kelly. His wife hired someone to continue the strip after his death but it was never the same without Walt. You can imitate artistic style but you can't imitate courage. Walt had that. He made fun of McCarthy while McCarthy was eviscerating artists in his Congressional hearings. Of course, he did it with intelligence that those who dwell in the Beltway couldn't understand. I can well imagine them laughing at Pogo without realizing that they were the butt of the joke. However, I now have Prickly City to console myself with. It's a pale imitation but still readable.

CPT Jack Durish, I will have to check out Prickly City. Since The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes closed up shop I lost interest in the other strips. Bizarro is close, but no cigar. I still smile thinking of Hal's 'birthmark'. Bummer!
