Thank you my friend SFC (Join to see) for making us aware that USMC Sgt. Benjamin Reiboldt, assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Lejeune, says he was going to a friend's house on his lunch break when he saw Margarita Capestany stuck on Sheffield Road in Jacksonville, South Carolina on Friday, June 19, 2020 in floodwaters.
"Capestany says she is thankful for the act of kindness, and Reiboldt says he did not think twice about helping out.
“I mean to serve and protect - you raised your hand to do it," he says. "It’s what you’re supposed to do. It’s not just being a Marine, it’s being a good human being and helping everybody that might need help."
Reiboldt's Platoon Officer 1st Lieutenant Thomas Schmitt says his heroic act is not surprising.
“His act of kindness is like a beacon for other Marines to emulate," he explains. "It comes to no surprise to me that Sgt. Reiboldt is the one to do this. He’s always looking to help out younger Marines, but really anyone who needs a hand."
According to Capestany, Reiboldt went above and beyond the call of duty.
“There’s no other way of putting it but saying that God sent him as an angel to help me," she says. "So, Benjamin, wherever you are, I’m truly grateful forever. You have a friend here between me and my husband; Elvin and I appreciate everything you did.”
But according to Rieboldt, he does not want the praise - just for others to continue acts of kindness.
“Just return the good deeds and keep it going," he says. "This world is kind of crazy right now and everyone helping everyone out might make it a little better."
As a thank you, Capestany has offered to make Reiboldt a homemade Puerto Rican dinner."
Kudos to USMC Sgt. Benjamin Reiboldt,
