Can We Win in the 'Gray Zone'?

A good question, especially with China, Iran and Russia rattling their sabers. I can hear some already, "But diplomacy ...." I would answer that diplomacy if far more effective when those on the other side realize the alternative will be neither pleasant nor in their best interests.
