China very much wants Taiwan. The British were forced to hand back Hong Kong and I think that emboldened the Chinese into thinking that any island in their area should belong to them.

I don't think anyone is tossing around nukes over Taiwan.
What might really happen is a short, intense air-sea battle.
Making a forced landing in Taiwan would be no mean feat, and China doesn't have a ton of amphibious capacity. I like Taiwan's chances of frustrating a forced entry, especially if we help.
A more dangerous possibility is one of coordination. If China can enlist one of our other enemies to make a move at the same time, particularly North Korea, that would present us with a very difficult strategic dilemma.

Mine the sea and attack the CICOMMS first. Taiwan has the Airpower and I hope US support in fuel, intel, ammo...
What? Screw those **'s. They are at war in all categories anyway. Politics, economy...Name it.
This latest rocket attack on our ally is without knowledge of the Russkies and CICOMMS? Who signed an energy treaty with the Shia? That rocket attack is the barn burning. Check for ambush.
My armchair Quarterback 2cts this am after doing a bunch of work.

I believe Greenpeace, AOC, the Presidential Democrats and other NGOs are the new antiwar movement to weaken us from within (though most dont realize it) while OPEC and Russia continue their energy business as usual.
