As finite resources dwindle, it's almost inevitable that major powers will have to slug it out. The only variable is how rapidly they pursue alternatives. Energy is the prime mover of everything, but many other strategic materials will eventually become critical for sustainment of the status quo. The silent land grab for Africa started years ago.
