They'll be marginally effective against local countries other than Japan. That's about it. Japan'd do for that thing, though. As would we.

Carriers remain relevant so long as wars and combat actions are convential. Being able to have a mobile air field is a significant advantage.

MCPO Roger Collins yeah, there’ll always be a use for bird cages... but there is the saying about ‘putting all ones eggs in one basket’...

The Marines have MAUs or MEUs or whatever they call’em these days. Why can’t the Navy task out Squadron or smaller task groups?
