They have been building up a wall of fortresses w/ their man-made islands. It is no secret that they are in the middle of a build up. I fear, if the Dragon decides to act, Taiwan will fall fast. S. Korea, too, for that matter. Japan might hold for a bit, but if China really wants to make a push, they are more than capable right now.
It is good that it appears we are trying to strengthen our military back up again just in case this becomes a reality.

Couldn't agree more. One of our biggest issues with public support, in my opinion, is the disbelief that we are vulnerable. Our society has said on more than one occasion that we have never been attacked since WWII (many conveniently ignore 911 as an attack), we need to cut back on military spending to lend foreign aid, continue funding projects of no significant importance to the US, arts, and other ventures which, even though they are important in their own rights, should fall secondary to the defense of our Nation.
Our society needs to redevelope that need for a strong military, because while we are cutting defense spending, scrapping bases and equipment and shrinking our military, countries like China and Russia are increasing and building.
I sincerely hope it does not take an attack on our soil to get our Country back on track in truly providing for our defense.

SGT Michael Thorin - not only that, but if you look at a great many of the technological & medical advances, they were initiated militarily.

China has power but it lacks the capability of projecting it very far. Even Taiwan would stretch their logo sticks thin. Building artificial islands to be used like stepping stones tends to illustrate my point. China will need decades to mend that weakness. Hopefully we can rebuild our economy before then or we won't be able to help ourselves let alone anyone else
