I’m an Agent Orange vet (VA rated) married to a Desert Storm vet. If it hadn’t been for receiving VA info, I would not have found the link to what was happening to her. 7 yrs ago she was essentially non-functional. In retrospect our daughter and I determined the symptoms started 2 yrs after her return and gradually increased like the pot with the frog. Once we paid our private physician to go over the VA criteria, he filled out and signed off on the form. We filed with the VA and she received a 100% rating at the first C&P interview. She was a candidate for additional benefits but after treatments and medicinal helps, she at least can get around. But, major memory segments are gone...not a hint. Endurance is minimal.

Desert Storm illness is insidious and grows so slowly that it sneaks up. It takes others to notice and help.

LCDR Morrissey, your sharing your wife's Gulf War Illness experience is a powerful message for the couple hundred-thousand service members suspected of living with Chronic Multi-Symptom Illnesses attributable to service in the 1990-1991 Persian Gulf War. Congratulations on your resolve to work with medical professionals in diagnosing your wife's condition. Your leadership is indicative of a strong family, great job to you and your daughter in working together to foster quality of life for your wife! Thank you sir for sharing your personal but inspirational experience. If your are a Gulf War Veteran with deployment healthcare concerns, please consider starting with a Gulf War Registry health exam: https://www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/gulfwar/benefits/registry-exam.asp
