It's not just millennials. History is one of the most poorly taught subjects in school. Indeed, teachers seem hell bent on destroying any interest in "our story". They are much more focused on indoctrination than education

I would also throw in that it is probably taught incorrectly as well. Using only a single source provided by the school district and basing all testing on that source. With history there are always several sources and some, very often, contradict one another. Students need to learn to use proper research techniques for and abundance of information. Multiple choice tests thrown out the window, and the essay form of testing taken over. This way a student can be graded based on what and how many resources they used to gain their knowledge from. Especially if they are recording their verbal lessons from their teachers and directly quote them. Students these days have endless information at their fingertips. The students where that go to schools near me are all given tablets. All we had when I was in school during the 90's were the books kept in the library. The internet was not a big thing in my school yet, and our library only had 3 PC's for internet use.

History is one of the most important subjects to learn, right behind math and "spelling".

LCpl Shane Couch - Reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. Those are the essentials. Especially reading. A literate person can teach themselves all the rest if they have the interest and motivation. That's how I learned history. It sure as hell wasn't taught to me...

Sad...

History is a subject that has largely been relegated to the dustbin of, (ahem!), history...
