The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF). CAP is a volunteer organization with an aviation-minded membership that includes people from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and occupations. It performs three congressionally assigned key missions: emergency services, which includes search and rescue (by air and ground) and disaster relief operations; aerospace education for youth and the general public; and cadet programs for teenage youth. In addition, CAP has recently been tasked with homeland security and courier service missions. CAP also performs non-auxiliary missions for various governmental and private agencies, such as local law enforcement and the American Red Cross. SGT John " Mac " McConnell - I was a CAP Cadet also in High school then remained in CAP for another 40 years as an Adult Member. My Father and Brother were also members of CAP for over 40 years.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot, this is my other CAP favorite, I actually found this a pretty cool idea, I'd wondered, e.g., why the USCG auxiliarymhadnt implemented something like it. I know USCG aux uses private planes, whereas I've gathered CAP has their own planes, which might well be why, I've been told, however, in any event, I just still found it a really seriously cool, inventive, and creative idea, you know? CAP is a nonprofit organization withover 64,000 members. It performs 95% of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. Yes, CAP does have their own aircraft, I have also participated in Air Search and Rescue missions authorized by the US Air Force with CAP . In Communications CAP has the world's largest civil radio net although its very controlled for CAP/USAF use. I had spent over 40 years in CAP as had My Father and Brother as CAP Officers.

insignia from one of the CAP, anti Submarine Coastal patrol units during WWII. there were 28 anti Submarine Coastal Patrol Bases on the US East Coast operated by CAP during WWII, The not only spotted many German subs but even dropped bombs and dept charges from their home made bomb racks on 52 enemy submarines and suck a few.
