This is an interesting idea. Let's face it, UAV pilots are probably not standing in formation and are in the rear. It might work, except if you need them to do overtime. Then this will not be cost effective. War has the ability to not be a 9-5 job.

I agree with you on this, but remember there would be shift changes and technically you can put civilians on orders during special circumstances. Yes there might be overtime for one shift, but even still it would come from a contracting company. It wouldn't always be an overtime kind of thing.

I had heard that enlisted "pilots" were being trained to become UAV pilot/operators.
