This is not a 2nd Amendment issue. The executive branch does not have the authority to arbitrarily suspend laws as they have been enacted by the legislative branch. If you support that type of action by the executive branch, at any level (Federal, State, County, or municipal) then, whether you know it or not, you are supporting dictatorship as a valid form of government.

What happens when the executive branch decides, for the sake of "public safety" to suspend laws YOU are in favor of...?

Unfortunately, that precedence has been set and reinforced for selectively enforcing some laws or parts of laws rather than all of them.

MAJ Charles Blake - Bad precedent is not binding on people that believe we are a nation of laws. I agree the suspension of open carry is expedient. But expedience is not justification for nullification of our system of government.

Maj John Bell - I agree with you and only want to add that we are not as much a nation of laws as we used to be. That's why your point that this is not just a 2A issue is very accurate.

I have a better question:

Who has time to protest a candidate or a political party they do not support?

I can't find time to attend a rally for candidates I DO support.
