Remembering Signalman First Class Douglas Albert Munro, a 22 year-old Coast Guardsman who gave his own life to save hundreds of Marines. During WWII, Douglas served with the U.S. Coast Guard and participated at the Guadalcanal campaign.

Every USCG member and every USMC member learns about Douglas Munro, deservedly so. There have been three ships named in his memory. The first the USS Douglas A. Munro (DE-422) a Butler-class destroyer escort that served from 1944 to 1960. The second was a 378' High endurance cutter USCGC Douglas Munro (WHEC-724) christened in 1971 she was originally to decommissioned in 2017, but has been kept in service. The third the USCGC Munro (WMSL-755) a new Legend class cutter christened in 2015. Images below are in order.
