The Coast Guard doesn't receiveve many kudos. So when I find a good story about them, I like to post it. This isn't a story about the Coast Guard per say, rather it's a great story about a hero Coast guardsman.
HARTFORD, CONN.
Like many people honored for their bravery, Coast Guard pilot William Peterson said he was just doing his job when he helped rescue nine colleagues whose plane crashed on a hillside on the western Aleutian Island of Attu off Alaska in 1982.

People don't realize it, but CG rescue swimmer training is in the same ballpark as BUD/s in terms of mental and physical endurance. They don't go on to get the combat training like SEALS, but their training is no joke.

SN Greg Wright, I realize it. I have a cousin in the Coast Guard who does this very thing. I have a friend, here where I live that was in the Coast Guard rescue. They are a bunch of tough, strong, Sailors.

SGT (Join to see) I had a long chat with a former Kodiak based, Coast Guard C-130 pilot. When I met Geoff, he was flying for Alaska Air. He said Air Rescue was for YOUNG pilots! He told me of a Coastie crewman shoving an emergency water pump and cable connected emergency engine off the ramp of a C-130 so the pump and engine would straddle a disabled fishing boat enabling them to recover the pump and engine and pump the boat out.

Nice story SGT (Join to see). If I had know about it beforehand I would have attended. The Academy is not too far from me. Been there many times.
